Django is a free and open-source web framework for building web applications using the Python programming language. It provides a set of tools and libraries that help developers to create robust, scalable, and maintainable web applications.

The framework follows the Model-View-Controller (MVC) architecture, although it’s often referred to as Model-View-Template (MVT). The main components of a Django application are:

  1. Models: A model is a Python class that defines the structure and behavior of the application’s data. It represents the database schema and provides an API to interact with the data.
  2. Views: A view is a Python function that processes a web request and returns a web response. It interacts with the models to retrieve and manipulate data and renders a response using templates.
  3. Templates: A template is an HTML file that defines the presentation layer of the application. It contains placeholders for dynamic content and logic that can be filled in by the views.

Django also includes an administrative interface, which allows developers to manage the application’s data and settings using a web-based interface without having to write any code.

Some of the features that make Django a popular choice for web development include its built-in security features, support for multiple databases, excellent documentation, and large and active community of developers. It’s used by many high-traffic websites such as Instagram, Pinterest, and Mozilla.
